MD CCW Wear and Carry Training & Qualification
This 18-hour instruction & qualification class satisfies current Maryland Wear and Carry requirements. This class is taught by Maryland State Police approved Qualified Handgun Instructors who have established an account through the Maryland State Police MyLicense/E-Gov site. Wear and Carry Permit training is 16 hours of instruction for an original application and 8 hours of instruction for a renewal application and 2 hours of range time.

Prerequisite
There are no pre-requisites for this course, but you are expected to be proficient and safe with your firearm.
Course Topics
Course topics include:
- Pistol and ammunition nomenclature
- Range Safety
- Instruction on state firearm law
- Instruction on home firearm safety and storage
- Instruction on handgun mechanisms and operation
- Use of Force and gun laws for Maryland
The shooting qualification is mandated by Maryland State Police and consists of shooting 25 rounds in total. The qualification course includes shooting (5) rounds at 3, 7, & 15 yards & (10) rounds at 10 yards at a B-27 silhouette target. You must hit at least 18 out of 25 shots (70%). You will also be required to demonstrate safety and proficiency during the duration of the qualification.
What To Bring
Handgun registered to you
Hip holster (IWB or OWB)
- Holster (no cross-draw, shoulder holsters, belly band holsters, or appendix/rear)
- Strong side hip holster (IWB/OWB are both allowed)
- You will be required to draw from concealment
Equipment and Ammunition
- At least 1 Additional magazines ( 2 or more in total preferred)
- Lasers are not permitted for qualifications.
- 50 rounds of factory loaded ammunition
- Eyes and Ears (amplified preferred)
Attire
- Loose fitting overshirt to be able to draw from concealment
- Sturdy gun belt
- Jeans or BDU style Tactical Pants
- NO open toed shoes or sleeveless shirt

As per Maryland State Police, Wear and Carry Permits may be issued to a person who meets the following criteria:
- An applicant who is 21 years of age or is a person who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, the National Guard, or the uniformed services. PS 5-306(a)(1)(i).
- Has not been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year has been imposed; or convicted of a criminal offense for which you could have been sentenced to more than 2 years incarceration.
- Has not been convicted of a crime involving the possession, use, or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance;
- Is not presently an alcoholic, addict, or habitual user of a controlled dangerous substance unless under legitimate medical direction;
- Based on an investigation, has not exhibited a propensity for violence or instability that may reasonably render the person’s possession of a handgun a danger to the person or others;
- Unless exempt, has successfully completed the Maryland State Police approved firearms training course within 2 years prior to submitting the original or renewal application. Training must be successfully completed prior to submitting the application, unless you are exempt from the training requirement.
Cancellation Policy
We require at least 48 hours’ notice if you cannot attend a class that you signed up for. With 48 hours’ notice or more, you can reschedule for a later date or be refunded in full. With LESS THAN 48 hours’ notice, you can reschedule the class one time OR be eligible for a 50% refund of the amount paid for the class. With less than 24 hours’ notice you are not eligible for a refund. There will be a fee of $25 to reschedule for a later date. Once you have signed up for a class and do not show up or give proper notice, you will NOT be eligible for any refund.
